RAM & SSD Upgrades in Durango, CO
The two biggest, most affordable ways to make a slow computer fast again. We check your exact machine and recommend only what will actually help, never more than you need.
More speed, without a new computer
SSD upgrade
Flat $70 + the drive
The biggest speed jump there is. Swapping an old spinning hard drive for a fast solid-state drive (SSD) makes a slow computer feel new, boot times and program launches go from a coffee break to a couple of seconds. Flat $70 to clone your setup and swap it in, plus the drive. (iMacs take longer, the glued-on screen has to come off and go back on, so those we assess on their own.)
RAM (memory) upgrade
Assessed per machine
More memory stops your computer from bogging down when you have a lot open at once. Whether we can add it, and what it costs, depends entirely on your machine, some have open slots and swap in minutes, others have the memory soldered in and can’t be changed at all. RAM prices are also high right now, so we check your exact computer and quote it honestly instead of guessing.
Right-sized, not over-sold
Memory (RAM): 8GB used to be the standard. These days 16GB is the baseline for most people, 8GB just isn’t enough anymore. More than 16GB really only helps gamers and heavy designers. (AI tools may push that number up down the road, but for now, 16GB is the sweet spot.)
Storage: most people don’t need a giant 1TB drive. We size it to how you actually use your computer: how much is on there now, and are you planning to add a lot of photos and videos over the next few years? If you’re close to full, the next step up (256GB to 512GB to 1TB) is usually the smart move.
Not sure whether new parts are even the answer? Sometimes a slow computer is a software problem, not a hardware one, and a performance optimization is the real fix. Here’s why computers actually get slow, so you know what you’re paying for before you spend a dime.
RAM & SSD upgrade FAQs
- Will an SSD really make my computer faster?
- For most people, yes, it’s the single biggest speed jump you can buy. If your computer still has an old spinning hard drive, swapping it for an SSD makes it feel like a new machine. It’s a flat $70 to clone your setup and install it, plus the cost of the drive.
- How much does a RAM upgrade cost?
- It depends on your machine, so we don’t quote a flat price. Some computers have open slots and take memory in minutes; others have it soldered to the board and can’t be upgraded at all. RAM prices are also high right now. We check your exact computer and give you an honest estimate before anything happens.
- How much memory and storage do I actually need?
- For memory, 16GB is the baseline for most people now, 8GB used to be plenty but really isn’t anymore, and more than 16GB only helps gamers and heavy designers. For storage, most people don’t need a giant 1TB drive. We size it to how you actually use your computer, and if you’re close to full, we bump you up one step (256GB to 512GB to 1TB).
- Do I need new parts, or would a tune-up fix it?
- Not always parts. If your slowdown is really a software mess, a performance optimization is the fix, not new hardware, and we’ll tell you so. We check what’s actually slow first, then recommend only what helps.
